Association in the Americas

 

The AME Zion University Alumni Association in the Americas is a non for profit charity organization fully committed to the development of the AME Zion University in Liberia, West Africa. The alumni association has been functioning in Liberia since the first graduating class in 1999. The primary function of the organization has being to aid the Institution in heading towards the fulfillment of its sacred duty which is to provide a platform which is very essential and aims at multi-dimensional objectives.

 

A group of Zionites in the United States through social media communicated the idea of establishing a chapter of the AME Zion University Alumni Association here in the United States. With positive responses, a meeting via tele-conference was scheduled and on September 15, 2013 the first meeting was held.

 Present at that meet were:

  1. Mr. Aloysius Gargar
  2. Mr. Eddie B. Stewart
  3. Mr. Yinka Ogundare
  4. Mr. James D. Findley
  5. Mrs. Peggy Tejan Dundas
  6. Mrs. Ruth Lauzyamo Mario
  7. Ms. Charlesetta Garnett
  8. Mr. Doliakeh Quoimie
  9. Mr. Moses Dorboryan
  10. Mr. Albert D. Sherman
  11. Mr. Emmanuel Tamba

At the first meeting, the following individuals were selected to act in various capacities:

  1. Aloysius Gargar             President
  2. Emmanuel Tamba        General Secretary
  3. James D. Findley           Treasurer
  4. Moses Dorboryan         Financial Secretary

 After numerous of meeting in months ahead, lots to people drifted and has since stay away from the organization. While some decided to stay away, there were few very hard working and gallant Zionites that join and made immense contribution towards the improvement of the organization.

 

 

 

Those individuals are:

  1. Mrs. Karina Wilson
  2. Mr. Dwanah S. Dwanah
  3. Mr. Rudolph Skip Vah
  4. Mr. Henson Toe
  5. Mr. Patrick Teahjay

At the December 2013 meeting, the body agreed to have a working section. The suggestion was   put forward by Mr. Eddie B. Stewart who stated that the section could be used as a time to brainstorm and design strategies that could shaped the destiny of our organization.  June 28, 2013 was agreed upon and Mrs. Peggy Tejan Dundas volunteered to host the working section at her home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland USA.

Present at the working section were:

  1. Mrs. Peggy Tejan Dundas
  2. Mrs. Karina Wilson
  3. Mr. Eddie B. Stewart
  4. Mr. Aloysius G. Gargar
  5. Mr. Yinka Ogundare
  6. Mr. Dwanah S. Dwanah
  7. Mr. Doliakeh Quoimie
  8. Mr. James Findley
  9. Mr. Rudolph Skip Vah

 

Not present but made full financial contribution towards the success of the working section were:

  1. Ms. Charlesetta Garnett
  2. Mr. Hanson W. Toe
  3. Mr. Albert D. Sherman
  4. Mr. Francis Leo Yancy

At the end of the section, we were able to firstly secure a physical address in the state of Delaware and completed the drifting of a constitution which was subsequently adopted by the body to serve as the organic law of the association. Also coming out of the working section, the body agreed with the ideas of registering with the federal government, obtaining a 501-c3 status and an EIN number and finally opening a bank account for the organization.

Since the working section in Maryland, the membership roaster of the organization has grown beyond expedition with all members making high level sacrifices towards the overall objective.   

This a just a summary of how far we’ve come and where we intend to go; therefore I sincerely urge all Zionites and friends of the institution to please join us in fostering the quest for quality education at the AME Zion University in particular and our Country, Liberia in general. May the Almighty God continue to favor our beloved institution as we all strive for a better future.
